2014 Columbus Day Hospice Regatta

Yaquina Bay Yacht Club

October 11-12, 2014

Nine boats from the Eugene Yacht Club were hauled over the Oregon coast range to Newport for the annual Hospice Columbus Day Regatta sponsored by the Yaquina Bay Yacht Club. A fun regatta that benefits a worthy cause. It is especially fun for us Eugene lake sailors who now have to consider tides and current. Newport adds to the excitement with the sprinkling of crab pots across the bay along with the weekend boat traffic, many of whom seem never to have encountered a sailboat before.

The predicted rain barely materialized on Saturday and the winds were in a pleasant midrange most of the day. The rain stayed away on Sunday as well, unfortunately so did the wind for the most part. The incoming tide threatened to take everyone up river, but they were able to get in a couple of races.
