“Loose Nuts” wins at Harvest Day Regatta
Team “Loose Nuts” (Jim Martinez, Chris Murschel, Rob Moline) put together an impressive series to win at EYC’s Harvest Regatta, displaying the great speed that helped them to a 2nd place finish at the Class Championships. Thirteen boats sailed six races in winds ranging from 10 to 18+kts. “Loose Nuts” took three firsts and three seconds, for a total of 9 points. Team “Q” (Mark Forrest, Scott Forrest, Kim Majors, Stephanie Stano) also sailed a very consistent regatta, finishing 3,3,3,3,2,1 for a total of 15 points and second place. The infamous “H20 Boa” (Gordon Mattatal, Don Southwell, Mike Merrifield) rounded out the top three with 18 points.
The wind piped up into the upper teens with larger gusts for the final race, and a number of boats chose to change down to the smaller jib. The downwind legs were wild with a number of broaches, two men overboard and one bent mast. “Loose Nuts” stayed true to their name and narrowly averted disaster in the final race when they noticed on the downwind leg that their forestay had lost its pin. A quick trip to the toolbox saved the day.
